Employee Spotlight – Ben Hadaway
Ben is our Laboratory Manager here at Norcros Adhesives. He has been with the company for 2 years. Welcome to his Employee Spotlight.
Can you tell us about your role at Norcros Adhesives and how it’s changed since you started?
I began my role as a Laboratory Technician in March 2019. After the Lab manager handed his notice in shortly after this I decided to apply for the job, to which I was successful! I took on the role of Lab supervisor until I completed my management qualifications, and in November 2020 I was promoted to Laboratory Manager. Starting August 2021, I have taken on the role of Lab/CI Manager. This means I now manage continuous improvement throughout the whole factory on top of my usual Lab duties.
What does a typical day look like for you?
My days are different, and they range from making crucial decisions both in the Laboratory or Production Lines to getting my hands dirty by helping with QC processes. I also conduct 5S days which are important in aiding our operational growth. These days help to increase the standards of housekeeping and improve our efficiency. I always make sure to support my staff when they need it, whether it may be work, future development or personal.
How have you been able to learn and grow at Norcros Adhesives?
Yes absolutely! I have had four different job roles which have progressively grown in responsibilities through the business. In this time, I have completed many qualifications ranging from FLT licences to Chartered management qualifications.
What has been your proudest moment at Norcros Adhesives?
Becoming Lab Manager was a huge step for my career and definitely my most proud moment.
What advice would you give to someone looking to start their career in Laboratories?
Gain as much knowledge as possible during school and take the apprenticeship route. The apprenticeship route is not only free from personal debt but you actually earn whilst you learn!
Once restrictions are fully lifted which destination do you wish to travel to first?
I have a UK cruise booked for the start of September 2021 that will be travelling around the UK which should be fantastic. There is also the benefit of having a risk free holiday as the cruise doesn’t cross any borders.
What’s your favourite activity in your spare time?
Scuba Diving, I often travel to Wales to teach Scuba diving as a second job.
What advice would you give to your younger self about your career?
Don’t hang on to mistakes and be more confident.
What’s the last song you listened to?
Marvin Gaye, Sexual Healing.
