Employee Spotlight – Corrie Gates
Corrie is our Finance Manager here at Norcros Adhesives. She has been with the company for 7 years. Welcome to her Employee Spotlight.
Can you tell us about your role at Norcros Adhesives and how it’s changed since you started?
I started 7 years ago as an Assistant accountant when we were a finance team of 2, and I am now the Finance manager reporting directly to the Finance Director, as part of a Finance team of 6. We have a fabulous team, who all work extremely hard to help continue to move the company forward.
What does a typical day look like for you?
At Norcros every day is very different. Yes, the standard monthly reporting is the same, but being a smaller department means that we all need to be able to think on our feet. I personally love the variety in the job and the challenges that it brings.
How have you been able to learn and grow at Norcros Adhesives?
Being at Norcros I have had some great mentors and have worked with some very knowledgeable people. This has allowed me to develop my own skills within accounts and the industry. I am very fortunate to have a very supportive Director and team, who have allowed me to grow within my position.
What has been your proudest moment at Norcros Adhesives?
My proudest moment is when I was appointed Finance Manager, the company invested heavily in my development, and it personally gave me great satisfaction when all this hard work was recognised.
What advice would you give to someone looking to start their career in finance?
Finance is a very challenging and changing environment with regular legislative changes, which makes continual development and learning very rewarding throughout your career.
Once restrictions are fully lifted which destination do you wish to travel to first?
I cannot wait to have a COVID-free, worry-free holiday with my extended family. We always have big family holidays (usually 12 of us with 3 dogs – if they are allowed), however have not been able to recently. The whole holiday is mad and crazy but there is so much fun and laughter.
What’s your favourite activity in your spare time?
With a one-year-old daughter, I don’t get that much spare time, but I do love going on family day trips.
What advice would you give to your younger self about your career?
Don’t be afraid to take risks, you are better than you think you are and do not undervalue yourself.
What’s the last song you listened to?
Moana, you’re welcome. This is my daughter’s favorite song, and she loves to dance to it with me and my husband.
