Employee Spotlight – Jackie Gill
Jackie Gill is our Sales Office Manager here at Norcros Adhesives. She has been with the company for 10 years. Welcome to her Employee Spotlight.
Can you tell us about your role at Norcros Adhesives and how it’s changed since you started?
I came here as a temp to cover 6 weeks of sick leave and 10 years down the line I’m still here! I started as an order processor then progressed to supervising the department. I started the apprenticeship programme trying to get young blood into the company in SOP and Customer services, which proved very successful.
My responsibilities kept growing, I began arranging meetings and sales conferences to assisting the Managing Director with any administration as well as supervising the department.
As Norcros grew and our staff levels increased, I was promoted to Sales Office Manager.
I seem to have become the go-to person in the office over the years, probably because I’m the eldest in the company – like the mother figure, or Grannie in some cases!
What does a typical day look like for you?
I wish there was such a thing, I would say no two days are the same. I mainly deal with HR tasks for staff both in the office and in the warehouse. I am still heavily involved in SOP tasks, and particularly production meetings.
I do enjoy my job and like the variation of it though it does not come without its challenges.
How have you been able to learn and grow at Norcros Adhesives?
Probably through my experiences of working with all departments in the company in one way or another. I have developed personally by taking on new challenges and opportunities when they appear and learning on the job!
What has been your proudest moment at Norcros Adhesives?
There have been many over the years, but I would say starting our apprenticeship scheme and building that up was a great achievement. I am very passionate about it and feel very protective of them, they start with us from 17 years old, and seeing them grow and develop within the company is something I’m very proud of.
How do you anticipate the effects of Covid 19 on our industry in 2021?
We seem to have survived well thus far with record sales, so hopefully, this will continue!
Once restrictions are fully lifted which destination do you wish to travel to first?
My wish would be to go to the Bahamas again where my long-time best friend lives. I have been once already and the experience was just awesome
What’s your favourite activity in your spare time?
I am part of a contemporary choir called Rock Choir that is nationwide, and I’m part of the Cheshire region. Pre COVID, we met every week and learned all-new pop songs rewritten into harmony. We perform many gigs including performances with some celebrities such as Russel Watson, Michael Ball, Proms in the Park NEC and more! We’ve carried on through zoom throughout COVID too. Singing is my favourite activity!
What book are you reading currently?
I am ashamed to admit I don’t really read much – my time is spent learning my lyrics!
What’s the last song you listened to?
The last song I listened to was Titanium by Sia in my car this morning trying to learn my harmony part!
