Tiling Onto A Newly Laid Screed Floor
- Make sure the background surfaces are dry, clean, flat, and storng enough to support the tiling
- Remember to seal it if it’s porous or dusty with Norcros Prime Bond, diluted 1-to-4 with water. Check for any special preparation instructions for your. background
- Roll the Permalayer matting out and cut to size
- Now you’re ready to start mixing the adhesive to lay the mat. Pour cold water into the mixing bucket to the required level for the weight of powder. Gradually add the adhesive at a ratio of 1 part water to 3.5 parts powder, stirring as you go to blend into a smooth, lump free consistency. Only mix the amount of adhesive you’ll be able to use within 30 minutes
- Spread out the adhesive using a suitable notched trowel. A thin bed trowel can allow for a thin layer of adhesive
- Firmly press the matting into the adhesive with the smooth side of the trowel, ensuring the adhesive is keyed into the matt. The adhesive should show through to the surface of the mat
- Leave to dry
- Once dry, you’re ready to start tiling. Mix another batch of adhesive as before
- Spread the adhesive using a suitable notched trowel. A thick bed trowel will give a solid bed of adhesive
- Firmly press the tiles into the adhesive with a slight twisting action. Lift a tile every now and again to check the coverage
- The adhesive is rapid setting, so you can grout just 3 hours later
